Hi, All, In the spirit of connecting and collaborating on a project or student assignment after the institute, I’m starting to think about ways to work on two possible DH projects this coming year. For a literature class, I’m interested in graphic novels and would welcome others who have a particular interest in Alison Bechdel’s works and ways DH could inform assignments related to Fun Home. I’ve also taught a food writing course at Lane for several years and am interested in a DH project related to food and culture, food security, bioregional eating, menus as historical documents, etc. Anyone interested, please email me, or let’s talk this week.
Hi Jennifer,
At Holyoke Community College, we will have a college-wide food theme for the next couple of years. Some time ago, I co-taught with a chef for a semester (and twice a week the class would meet in a professional kitchen to work!). One of my favorite books about food is “The Debt to Pleasure” by John Lanchester. It is funny, sinister, and philosophical about food. There is an early passage about menu design. The book requires some experienced readings skills, so it is not recommended for developmental classes. Let’s talk! Jim
